Birk Bank
Photographed my all-time favourite fly feeding on a patch of wild mint at Birk Bank near Clougha - the wonderfully named Tachina grossa. It's about an inch long with a beautiful yellow head, glossy black back and a very bristly bottom. The larvae hatch from eggs laid individually in burrows and which have kindly been supplied with a nice fat caterpillar each before Mum left. Wonderful!
